a brief history of acoustic location devices

watch-this-space professor meyer's topophone was one of the earliest working acoustic location devices in 1880, the theory behind this was eventualy put to use on the Japanese War Tubas pictured below which could pick up the rumble of aircraft at great distances until radar was invented circa WW2

on that note

Ive been looking into sound and although t the moment i'm planning on using digital sound heres a bit about some clever sorts who have invented their own instruments

watch-this-space and here is the worlds largest instrument at 3.5 acres constructed by Leland W. Sprinkle, this is up on oddmusic.com which is fantastic for these things.
